Many studies have shown that the occasional alcoholic beverage is not harmful to the body, and can even be beneficial. For example, a glass of red wine here and there has been shown to lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease. However, while you are on the HCG diet, it is not advised to consume alcoholic beverages. These beverages contain a lot of empty calories and sugar, both of which can impede your weight loss. Some people find that while on the HCG diet, their cravings for alcohol are nonexistent.
If you find yourself in a situation where a drink is necessary, remember to keep your consumption to only one drink. Acceptable drinks would be vodka with orange juice or vodka with mineral water and a twist of lemon. However, even one drink is not recommended. If you do have a drink, don’t be surprised if you see your weight loss slow down for a day or two. Once you are off the HCG diet, and you have your weight under control, you may begin to incorporate a glass of wine or other alcohol once in a while back into your diet. Until then, it is best and most advisable to take a hiatus from alcohol.
